Chef Hesse was a contestant in Season 5 of the reality TV show Hell's Kitchen. The series was taped in the fall of 2007 and shown originally on US television starting January 2009.
In 2013 Chef Hesse weighed nearly 600 pounds, and had already suffered three heart attacks. In January 2014 he underwent a vertical sleeve gastrectomy, which allowed him to lose about 400 pounds.
