  • After Tavern on the Green was closed in 1974, the lease was acquired by Warner LeRoy. After renovation it reopened on August 31, 1976
  • At the end of 2009 Dean Poll took over the 20-year lease to the site (name not included).
  • In September 2009 Tavern on the Green LP sought bankruptcy protection.
  • Closed after service December 31, 2009 (4 AM January 1, 2010), was expected to reopen in 2010 under new management and with a name to be determined by the courts.
  • On March 10, 2010 the U.S. District Court ruled that the City of New York and not the LeRoy family had control of the name.
  • In May 2010 talks between Dean Poll and the union representing 400 former employees collapsed. Pending a new operator the city used the space as a visitor center, retail shop and until November 2011 as a site for 4 high-end food carts on the patio area. Visitor center closed June 2012.
  • In April 2011 a federal bankruptcy court ruled the city has exclusive use of the name Tavern on the Green for restaurant services in the city, but use of the name outside of the tri-state region can be sold.
  • In December 2011 the city put out a call for a new operator for the summer of 2013.
  • In August 2012 the city announced the new operator for Tavern on the Green is Emerald Green Group of Philadelphia. They were awarded a 20-year license.
  • In October 2013, at the request of city officials, the The New York Hotel and Motel Trades Council agreed to wait two years before beginning to organize the restaurant's workers—compared with the usual grace period of a few months. (See Crain's)
  • Reopened April 24, 2014.
