  • The island Tetiaroa was purchased by actor Marlon Brando in the 1960s. Brando and his wife (1962-1972) actress (Mutiny on the Bounty) Terita Teriipaia used the property primarily to entertain themselves and their guests. In 1970 Brando built a small village which was later destroyed in a hurricane. Terita did run a thatched hotel for many years. In the 2000s Richard H. Bailey acquired control of the property from the Brando family; The Brando opened in July 2014 (see Forbes).
